Configuration of Maximal Depth of Top Navigation

The maximal depth in the category navigation determines the level of the subcategory that appears on the store view as the level of the menu in Magento 2.

FIELDS:

Maximal Depth: It specifies how many layers of subcategories there are in the top navigation. There is no upper restrictions on the number of levels when the default value is zero.

Configure the maximal depth of the Category Top Navigation:

  • Step 1: Go to Stores > Settings > Configuration on the Admin sidebar.
  • Step 2: Expand the Catalog section on the left side, then click Catalog underneath.
  • Step 3: Expand the Category Top Navigation section. 
    • You will find something similar to the image given below. This section's maximum depth determines the level of the category navigation menu in the store view.

    • The setting for the depth of the top navigation applies to all store views, stores, and websites in the Commerce installation because it has a global configuration scope. The Store View setting in the upper-left corner must be set to Default Config in order to access the Category Top Navigation settings area.
  • Step 4: Enter the value for Maximal Depth to restrict the number of subcategories displayed in the top menu.
  • Step 5: With 0 as the default value, there is no restriction on the number of levels of subcategories that can exist.
  • Step 6: After finishing, click Save Config.
